Harvey High School E-City Entrepreneurs Donate To Komen NE Ohio

You may have read previous posts about the great kids at Harvey High School, Painesville, Ohio who worked hard to start a business as participants in E-City.  The E-City program is a joint effort between Harvey High School Business Teacher Ms. Nell Rapport and Mr. Tim Kerhes of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Students Francisco Carlin, Malena Hyde, Craig MacNiven Eric Rodriguez and Angel Walker, spend the semester creating a business, sold product and wrote a business plan.  They named their company “Success 5”, purchased and resold multi colored ink pens with a built in highlighter and some pretty cool lanyards.

Success 5 was one of the three companies started by students in Ms. Rapport’s business class.  At the end of the semester all three of the student businesses presented their business plans in a competition.

Students Francisco Carlin, Malena Hyde, Craig MacNiven Eric Rodriguez and Angel Walker, started their business Success 5, sold product and wrote a business plan.

I was part of a group of mentors that included Gladys Benetiz-Reilley, Tony Brooks and Tony Gagliardi.  Mentors met with the students once a week, acting as a “Board Of Directors.  In the end Success 5 managed to generate enough sales to repay their seed money loan, make a donation (10% of pen sales) to Komen of NE Ohio and put some money in their own pockets!

If you ask the students and the mentors, my guess is they’ll all say they learned something!  Congratulations Francisco, Malena, Craig, Eric and Angel.  You guys did a great job!  Your parents, teachers, family, friends and our community should all be proud of all of you.  I am!
